Central Asia in Chinese Media is a project focused on the Chinese media and how they deliver the news and events concerning Central Asia to their domestic audience. This monitoring project offers a weekly bulletin of the most notable topics discussed by the Chinese media covering Central Asian domestic and regional politics, economy, and security, as well as the BRI-related projects and activities in the region.
This past week, Chinese media reported on the President of Tajikistan urging the international community to join forces in the fight against terrorism, Xinhua News Agency published an exclusive interview with Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to China, other outlets reported on a Chinese envoy to the UN calling on the international community to take concrete actions to achieve justice and development for women in conflict zones and to strengthen their resilience, and finally, the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan passing the bill on the demarcation of the Kazakh-Turkmen border in the Caspian Sea was also reflected in the news.
The past week, Chinese media reported on the Chinese Vice President meeting with the Kazakh president and attending the 6th CICA summit in Astana, The nomination period for the November Presidental Elections in Kazakhstan closing with 6 qualified candidates including Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, A notable joint restoration project in Khiva starting with China's support and within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and on October 13th, the People's Daily published an exclusive interview with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who shared his thoughts on the history and the future of the relationship between Turkmenistan and China.
This past week, Chinese media reported on the foreign leaders from the Central Asian countries congratulating the People's Republic of China on its 73rd founding anniversary, 440 families receiving Chinese humanitarian aid in north Afghanistan, Huawei and ZTE officially signing eight contracts worth USD 500 million with Uzbek Telecom, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) celebrating its 30th anniversary in Astana.
