This past week, Chinese media reported on the foreign leaders from the Central Asian countries congratulating the People's Republic of China on its 73rd founding anniversary, 440 families receiving Chinese humanitarian aid in north Afghanistan, Huawei and ZTE officially signing eight contracts worth USD 500 million with Uzbek Telecom, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) celebrating its 30th anniversary in Astana.

On Saturday, October 1st, the People's Republic of China celebrated its 73rd founding anniversary (People's Daily Online). Leaders of many countries and international organizations telephoned or sent letters to Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China (PRC), to warmly congratulate him on the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the PRC and wish the upcoming 20th National Congress of the CPC to be a full success.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev extended his sincere congratulations to President Xi and the Chinese people on behalf of the Kazakh people (XianCity). Tokayev said he firmly believes that the 20th National Congress of the CPC will provide a new and strong impetus for China's development, and will open new and broad room for China to continuously enhance its influence as a major country.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov also conveyed their sincere congratulations and best wishes to President Xi (Haiwai Net, Sina). The two Central Asian presidents emphasized that the 20th National Congress of the CPC is an important event of political activities in China, that will formulate a series of major policies and open a new chapter for China's development, and wished the 20th National Congress of the CPC to be a complete success.
On October 5th, Uzbektelecom reached an agreement with Huawei and ZTE to implement four investment projects with a total value of about US$ 500 million (XCC). Uzbek Telecom signed a total of eight contracts with Huawei and ZTE for network development and expansion, under agreements supported by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications (MITC). Under the contracts, telecom networks and digital infrastructure will be developed in the western and eastern regions of the country.
On October 6th, a total of 440 families received China-donated humanitarian assistance in Shiberghan city, the capital of northern Afghanistan's Jawzjan province (People's Daily Online). Weeks ago, another batch of Chinese humanitarian supplies was delivered to some 400 families in need in other parts of Jawzjan province. China also provided humanitarian assistance to the people affected by the earthquake and flood in the eastern Paktika and Khost provinces a couple of months ago.
A solemn ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) was held on the 5th of October in Astana (cnhubei). Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Adil Tursunov addressed the guests of the event with welcome remarks, noting the most important milestones of the 30 years of activity of CICA, achievements made during the chairmanship of Kazakhstan, and plans ahead of the Sixth Summit to be held in the capital of Kazakhstan on 12-13 October 2022. Historical photographs from the archives reflecting landmark events in the history of CICA were presented at the event together with CICA anniversary projects – the books “Tales of Asia” and “Ecotourism Guidebook of the CICA Region”, and a commemorative coin “100-Tenge” of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan was unveiled.
Established on October 5th, 1992, CICA is committed to enhancing cooperation through elaborating multilateral approaches towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia, and it currently has 27 member countries (CICA’s Official Website).
