
On Wednesday, May 6, the College of Social Sciences at KIMEP University will host Pierre Andrieu, Senior Research Fellow at the China & Central Asia Studies Center, for a guest lecture titled “The Future of Russian–Chinese Relations in a Fractured World.”
In this lecture, Ambassador Andrieu will examine the evolving dynamics between Russia and China against the backdrop of increasing global fragmentation. Drawing on his extensive diplomatic experience and research on Eurasian geopolitics, he will discuss the strategic foundations of this partnership, its internal tensions, and its implications for regional and global order. The talk will offer a timely perspective on how shifting power alignments are reshaping international relations in an era of uncertainty.

About The Speaker

Pierre Andrieu is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow on China–Russia relations at the Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis and a Senior Research Fellow at KIMEP University’s China and Central Asia Studies Center (CCASC). He began his diplomatic career in the Asia Division of the Quai d’Orsay, where he was responsible for China, Hong Kong, and Mongolia. He subsequently served for five years at the French Embassy in Russia and later held ambassadorial positions in Tajikistan and Moldova. As the French co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, he was closely involved in efforts to address the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
He currently teaches international relations at several French and foreign universities and, in parallel, collaborates with foreign policy institutes, publishes on international affairs, and is the author of Géopolitique des relations russo-chinoises (Presses universitaires de France, 2023).
