CCASC and the College of Social Sciences (CSS) at KIMEP University are delighted to announce the upcoming "Central Asian Regionalism in the Vertex of the EU, Russia, and China" conference, a key event within the EU-Supported Jean Monnet Project "EU — Central Asia Relations" (Project ID: 101127257). This 2-day event is dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge research on the issues and prospects of regional integration in Central Asia.
The Call for Papers is jointly issued with the support of the Economic Diplomacy, offering selected authors the opportunity to have their work peer-reviewed and published in a special issue of this prestigious journal.
Background
Central Asian regional integration has been a long and challenging journey, marked by internal divisions and significant external influences. In recent years, however, there appears to be a growing momentum towards integration, influenced by various factors. The EU, Russia, and China play pivotal roles in this process, each bringing distinct approaches and historical experiences to bear on regional integration efforts.
Call for Papers
We invite scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to contribute to the Conference and a forthcoming special issue of the Economic Diplomacy journal titled "Central Asian Regionalism in the Vertex of the EU, Russia, and China." The conference and the special issue aim to address the complexities and dynamics of Central Asian regionalism and to examine its challenges and opportunities within the greater geopolitical landscape as shaped by the neighboring and external powers, including the European Union, Russia, and China.
Themes and Scope
This special issue seeks to explore the multifaceted aspects of Central Asian regionalism, focusing on its potential, challenges, and the impact of major external actors. Apart from focusing on how the great powers shape regional development in Central Asia (outside-in approach), we believe that it is also necessary to consider perspectives that examine the region from within (inside-out approach), viewing Central Asia as an independent or interdependent regional entity and actor within the international arena. Therefore, we welcome submissions that cover, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Comparative Regionalism: Theories and Methods, including but not limited to:
- Regionalism and Regional Governance in Central Asia, including but not limited to:
- Central Asia as the Grand Chessboard: The EU, China, Russia’s Regional Strategies and the C5’s Responses, including but not limited to:
- Central Asian Regionalism: Implications and Lessons in the Transition to a Multiplex World, including but not limited to:
