China and Central Asia Studies Centre held an open lecture "Belt up Central Asia: Chinese investments in the region" with Anton Bugayenko

 

On May 30, China and Central Asia Studies Centre held an open lecture "Belt up Central Asia: Chinese investments in the region" with Anton Bugayenko - the sinologist and an expert of the Institute of World Economics and Politics under the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the lecture Anton has presented the main aspects of bilateral cooperation after the launch of the Chinese "Belt and Road" initiative. The main attention was paid to the analysis of joint economic projects within the framework of the "51 priority projects" program, interim results, problems encountered by the projects, and possible ways of further cooperation development. Expert has also analyzed the impact of Chinese infrastructure projects, in particular the Western Europe-Western China highway, on the geopolitical situation in the region.

The participants of the lecture got the answers to the following questions: Why does China invest in Central Asia? Which industries are the most important for China? How does China organize the work of its companies in Kazakhstan? Will Chinese investments bring the new life into the region's economy? What experience Kazakhstan already has in attracting them? And why will the cooperation between the two countries continue?
